A brand-new "Bonnie Book" about the same delightful family as "Schoolhouse in the Woods", "Up and Down the River", and "Happy Little Family".

The Fairchild children had been sitting around the fireplace on New Year's Day planning their long winter vacation when Bonnie's brother announced his most recent discovery: ". . . Whatever you do on New Year's Day you'll do every day in the year. So, I'm going skating."

While this was a happy thought, the theory was soon questioned. "Chris," scolded eight-year-old Debby, "even if you skated 'til dark today, you wouldn't skate in July!"

"You could swim in August," Bonnie said, "and that's a little bit like skating."

"Anyway," Christ retorted, "I'm going skating. All afternoon."

For as long as the Fairchild children could remember, every winter had meant the start of a long vacation for them.  You couldn't get to school when everything was covered with deep, frozen snow.

But Father Fairchild had other ideas about this vacation. That night after the chores were finished he told them all about it. Fourteen-year-old Althy was going to teach school—The Fairchild School. It would meet daily in the the Fairchild parlor, and Bonnie's brother and sisters were going to be the only students.

Told with humor, charm and simplicity, here is a thoroughly delightful story for young readers about life on a farm during one long, cold winter.
