Ralph Moody

1898 - 1982
American

Ralph Moody was born in 1898 in East Rochester, New Hampshire, and is descended from a family which settled in Massachusetts in 1633. A good deal of his life story has appeared in his three books—ranching days in Colorado, his struggles to help keep the family going after his Father's death, and his work on his Grandfather's farm—but there remains much to be told. It was after the period covered in The Fields of Home that the doctors gave him twelve months to live. His reaction was what his readers might expect: he went West again for an open-air life of ranching and riding in rodeos and for the movies. His health improved rapidly, and he soon sent for and married his New England sweetheart and began his business career. After becoming head bookkeeper for Procter & Gamble in Kansas City, he joined B/G Foods, and is now Western Manager for that firm. The Moodys live in San Francisco, and have three children.

Ralph Moody's interests are by no means confined to his writing and his job. He is much in demand as an arbitrator of labor disputes, and has been a guest lecturer at several colleges; he is still an outstanding rider, as well as an accomplished sculptor and a fine amateur cook.
